Assam, epicentre of north-eastern India, is a land of forests, lyrical hills, beautiful plains, streams, rivers and rare flora and fauna. A land which is rich with nature's beauty and steeped in mythological legends and which bestow sights that could be frozen into one's memory and as pretty pictures as well.

The Assam State Museum established by the Kamrup Anusandhan Samiti in 1940 has an envious collection of antiques dated as late as prehistoric times. Collections includes that of archaeology, sculpture, paintings, metal, ivory and woodwork, costumes and ethnology. It showed the cultural richness of its races, least known to the civilized world. The museum is open except on Mondays.
The Assam State Zoo is located on the R. G. Baruah Road in the city of Guwahati. The zoo is located in the natural and sylvan environment of the lush green Hengrabari Reserved Forest. Established in 1957 the zoo has seen several success stories in conservation and breeding in captivity. The zoo is open daily except Fridays.

The Shrimanta Shankar Dev Kalakshetra is the hub centre of all the Cultural and Fine Arts Activity in the Region. It has been conceived as a grand exposition of the life and culture of the people of Assam, of its many ethnic groups and tribes, in all its beauty and splendour. It is an attempt to capture and convey the essence of unity in diversity along with universal brotherhood. It has a literary and dance drama department, an art department, a cultural museum, a heritage park, an open air theater and an artists village.

The Regional Science Museum is one of the favorite places for the kids and learners. The mesuem displays the scientific developments and Indian contribution in the field of science and technology. It is situated at Khanapara.
Dighali Pukhuri - a huge water body in the heart of the city and a park - that what a city needs. The place offers a relaxing atmosphere amidst the State High court, Centenary Cotton College, Handique Girls College, District Library and the State Meseum.
A pleasant river cruise on the Brahamputra aboard the Jolporee, a luxury cruise vessel, in the evening hours, is a thrilling experience.
The Shangrila River Cruise takes one to to Kaziranga National Park by river, and later on moves upwards to Majuli, the worlds largest river island. Downstream the cruise takes one to Sualkuchi, one of the largest silk producing village. It is a round way trip to and from Guwahati.
The famous Balaji Temple of Tirupati located at Lokhara, the Guwahati
Planetarium, the Saraighat Bridge over the Brahmaputra, the Guwahati
Oil Refinery, Lachit Barphukan Park and the Guwahati University are
places worth seeing.
Other places where one whiches to visit includes Tezpur, Sibasagar, Majuli, Sualkuchi, Haflong, Digboi.
